In addition to our regular Sunday services at 8:30, 9:02, and 11:00 am (traditional), 11:00 am (contemporary), and 6:00, St. John's offers special services throughout the year to help us through hard times, remind us of the gifts that God has given us, and to celebrate the blessings we have in our lives. Below are some of the special services we offer throughout the year. If you have any questions, please contact Catherine Stapleton Nance in our office for more information.
The Longest Night Service
Every year on December 21, St. John's observes the longest night/shortest day of the year. This service is a chance for our members and the entire community to come together with others who are experiencing a loss (death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, etc.) and perhaps do not feel joyous despite the Christmas season. Offered in our Chapel, there is quiet and contemplative music and a gentle message of hope, along with communion and an opportunity to remember loved ones by lighting a candle to honor them or remember them.
This is a beautiful service filled with music, visuals, and the story of Jesus. There is a full choir and orchestra and is truly something you do not want to miss.
Christmas Eve Services at St. John’s
5pm -- 45 minutes long and a casual atmosphere that is family-friendly. We sing familiar carols and enjoy candlelighting.
7pm and 11pm -- full services with choir, instruments and candlelighting.
Each year around the 4th of July, we present a service featuring patriotic music, color guard and a brass quintet. Right after the service, everyone is welcome to enjoy a picnic in the gym.
Held in on the first Sunday of each month in the chapel at 10am, prior to the 11am Sanctuary service. All are welcome to attend.
Each year on All Saints Sunday, we remember those church members who have entered into Life Eternal during the past year, as well as family members of our congregation.
At 6pm we offer the chance to begin the Lenten season with an Ash Wednesday service, where we have the imposition of the ashes and a brief sermon
On the Thursday of Holy Week, we have a worship service at 7pm, with Holy Communion.
On Good Friday at 7pm we will read the Passion story with a traditional extinguishing of candles, as we observe this day.
Every Sunday is a little Easter at St. John's; however, on Easter Sunday, we enjoy a brass group and full choir at the Sanctuary services.
On Mother's Day at the 11am service, the men of the church join the regular choir men to present the St. John's All-Church Men's choir. Enthusiasm is required but talent in singing is optional!
The Sunday before high school graduation, our current graduates lead worship and participate in the sermon as we celebrate this milestone in their lives.
