"Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong." -Ephesians 3:17
The Grove Children's Ministries is led by Heather Long, and focuses on children from the time they are born until they reach 6th grade when they will transition into the Foundation Youth Ministries. There are several programs available to children throughout the year and you are always welcome to participate whether you are a member or not! We also offer activities on Sunday and Wednesday nights for children in conjunction with youth and adult programs. St. John's is a safe sanctuary church. All employees and volunteers working with children must undergo a background check and abide by all safe sanctuary policies. View the PDF below to see the Safe Sanctuary Policy.

Annual Events for Children
BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS
At St. John's we send children back to school in a BIG way! On August 18 at our worship services at 9:02 and 11:00 children are asked to bring their backpacks to church with them and at the end of the service, they are invited to bring them to the front for a very special blessing,
This is a favorite Sunday for the church and one that no one wants to miss!
THIRD GRADE BIBLES
On September 8 our third graders are presented with an age appropriate Bible. This is the first of three Bibles the church gives to our children. They receive their second one when they are confirmed in the church and then a third one when they graduate from high school. St. John's considers the Word of God important and the church hopes to encourage our children to study His Word.
Bible Basics is a class offered to 3rd graders on the heel of the Presentation of Third Grade Bibles. The curriculum teaches children the books of the Bible and helps them learn how the Bible is written and how to look up scripture. We use videos, games, and puzzles to make the learning fun and easy! For the 2019-2020 school year this class is offered September 11 - October 30, 2019.
TRUNK OR TREAT
Trunk or treat is a fun, fall event that will be held on Sunday, October 27. Decorated cars line up in the church parking lot with trunks full of candy, and often costumed adults. Children come from everywhere, wearing their costumes and ready for some treats! It's a great, safe way to celebrate Halloween.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Packing Party - November 17, 2019
Operation Christmas Child is one a special ministry of Samaritan's Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization that provides spiritual as well as physical aid to hurting people around the world. Operation Christmas Child allows the whole congregation and community to be involved in sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the world
Kids and adults pack shoe boxes full of goodies and surprises to send to children all over the globe in order to wish them a Merry Christmas. A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. These simple gifts have the power to change children's lives all over the world. They are an indication that they are loved by other people and especially by Jesus.
Boxes are provided by the church and are available beginning October 1. They are collected and blessed in our worship services in November. Children love to be a part of choosing the goodies and stuffing the boxes.
CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES
St. John's offers several Christmas Eve Services. A 5:00 Family Candlelight service, 7:00 Candlelight service, and 11:00 Communion and Candlelight service are all held in the Sanctuary.
MISSIONS IMPACT CELEBRATION
Each year during the winter, St. John's holds their annual Missions Impact Celebration (MIC). This is a time when we, as a church, welcome and interact with our local. regional, and international mission partners. The 2019 MIC weekend will be held February 7-9.
During MIC our children have a unique opportunity to explore missions and search for ways they too can live out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20). They are able to visit with guest missionaries from all over the world and participate in activities that truly make a difference in the lives of others in the name of Jesus.
In the past, our children have made pillows for orphans in Russia, sent blankets to kids in Kenya, and made survival kids for earthquake victims in Haiti. This is a great way to get our children involved early and give them the good, positive feeling of helping others less fortunate then themselves.
MOTHER/SON DATE NIGHT
A mother/son event will be held. Date and time TBD.
This wonderful time of bonding between fathers (or grandfathers, or uncles, or special friends) and the exceptional young lady in their life. Our next dance will be held Friday, March 29. Everyone gets dressed up and comes out to dance, socialize, laugh, eat and just have a great time. This event requires advance registration. As March approaches watch the Event Calendar on the Home Page for a link to registration.
The children's Easter activities will be held Saturday, April 11.
The annual Easter Egg Hunt is a time for fun and fellowship for children ages walking - 4K. Parents are asked to donate a dozen filled, plastic eggs per participating child. The children will get to hunt for these eggs that the older children helped hide earlier in the day. Refreshments and playground fun follow the hunt.
RODGERS FISHING TRIP
On May 9, 2020 our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders and their families spend the day fishing together. We'll end with a picnic eating what we catch...and hot dogs.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
VBS, held in June, is one of the most exciting weeks in the life of the church! At St. John's we invite all children, members or not, to experience the Bible through scripture, music, food, and games. Our next VBS event will be June 15-19, 2020.
