The Grove Children's Ministries is led by Stephanie Lord, and focuses on children from the time they are born until they reach 6th grade when they will transition into the Foundation Youth Ministries. There are several programs available to children throughout the year and you are always welcome to participate whether you are a member or not! We also offer activities on Sunday and Wednesday nights for children in conjunction with youth and adult programs. St. John's is a safe sanctuary church. All employees and volunteers working with children must undergo a background check and abide by all safe sanctuary policies. View the PDF below to see the Safe Sanctuary Policy.
Annual Events for Children
MISSIONS IMPACT CELEBRATION
Each year during January St. John's holds their annual Missions Impact Celebration (MIC). This is a time when we, as a church, welcome and interact with our local. regional, and international mission partners.
During MIC our children have a unique opportunity to explore missions and search for ways they too can live out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20). They are able to visit with guest missionaries from all over the world and participate in activities that truly make a difference in the lives of others in the name of Jesus.
In the past, our children have made pillows for orphans in Russia, sent blankets to kids in Kenya, and made survival kids for earthquake victims in Haiti. This is a great way to get our children involved early and give them the good, positive feeling of helping others less fortunate then themselves.
The children's Easter activities are typically held on the Saturday before Easter Sunday.
The annual Easter Egg Hunt is a time for fun and fellowship for children ages walking - 4K. Parents are asked to donate dozen filled, plastic eggs per participating child. The children will get to hunt for these eggs that the older children helped hide earlier. Refreshments and playground fun follow the hunt.
While the younger children are searching for eggs, the older ones (5K - 5th grade) will undertake a more meaningful search. Through a scavenger hunt they will search for the true meaning of Easter. This event requires registration. A little closer to the event, watch the EVENT CALENDAR on the HOME PAGE for the link to register.
This wonderful time of bonding between fathers (or grandfathers, or uncles, or special friends) and the exceptional young lady in their life is typically held on a Friday night in April. Everyone gets dressed up and comes out to dance, socialize, laugh, eat and just have a great time. This event requires advance registration. As April approaches watch the Event Calendar on the Home Page for a link to registration.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
VBS, held in June, is one of the most exciting weeks in the life of the church! At St. John's we invite all children, members or not, to experience the Bible through scripture, music, food, and games.
What better way to kick off summer than a week full of fun and Jesus? Registration is required so watch the EVENT CALENDAR
BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS
At St. John's we send children back to school in a BIG way! Our worship services at 9:02 and 11:00 are dedicated to children. They participate in the services by reading scripture, leading prayer, and serving as ushers and greeters. Children are asked to bring their backpacks to church with them and at the end of the service, they are invited to bring them to the front for a very special blessing,
This is a favorite Sunday for the church and one that no one wants to miss!
THIRD GRADE BIBLES
In September our third graders are presented with an age appropriate Bible. This is the first of three Bibles the church gives to our children. They receive their second one when they are confirmed in the church and then a third one when they graduate from high school. St. John's considers the Word of God important and the church hopes to encourage our children to study His Word.
Receiving their first Bible at the 11:00 service is a very special and meaningful time for the children and their families.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Operation Christmas Child is one a special ministry of Samaritan's Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization that provides spiritual as physical aid to hurting people around the world. Operation Christmas Child allows the whole congregation and community to be involved in sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the world
Kids and adults pack shoe boxes full of goodies and surprises to send to children all over the glove in order to wish them a Merry Christmas. A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. These simple gifts have the power to change children's lives all over the world. They are an indication that they are loved by other people and especially by Jesus.
Boxes are provided by the church and are available beginning in October. They are collected and blessed in our worship services in November. Children love to be a part of choosing the goodies and stuffing the boxes.
TRUNK OR TREAT
Trunk or treat is a fun, fall event held on a Friday evening at the end of October. Decorated cars line up in the church parking lot with trunks full of candy, and often costumed adults. Children come from everywhere, wearing their costumes and ready for some treats! It's a great, safe way to celebrate Halloween.
CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS EVENT
On a Saturday afternoon in December St. John's holds a special Christmas event for children and their families. They will explore the city of Bethlehem at the time of Jesus' birth. Through hands-on experiences they will find out about the most important baby ever born and learn that Jesus came to save us all.
Brings your children and grandchildren and join us for a fun afternoon. Children up to 5th grade are welcome. Registration is required so watch the EVENT CALENDAR on our home page.
CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES
St. John's offers several Christmas Eve Services. Families with young children are invited to join us at the 5 pm candlelight service. Children will receive a special Christmas gift as they leave.
Other services are offered at 7 pm and 11 pm.
